I am pleased to announce the winner of the Functional Home Designs room makeover contest! Sara Beth of Seacoast NH entered her "clutter room" (left) as her problem room. She says that it has collected all of the furniture that she and her husband want to use, but aren't sure how. It is also the only room in the house they haven't painted and are at a stand-still.

Sara would like to see this room act as a guest room when needed, but  would like to use it primarily as an everyday sitting room. The natural light and gorgeous wood floors are two big pluses, but the steel blue ceiling and dark blue walls have got to go! I have some ideas already!

Congratulations to Sara and thank you to all the entrants.

Watch in the coming weeks for the transformation of Sara's room as well as details on the next room makeover contest.

I'm very excited to announce that Functional Home Designs is holding its first contest!

Do you have a space that is not functional, cluttered, needs to be re-purposed, or just plain doesn't work for you? Send me your pictures (preferably several different angles) and e-mail them with a short explanation of what's going on in the room and how you would like it to work better for you, to functionalhomedesigns@yahoo.com. Be sure to let me know where you live! The winner will receive a complimentary room makeover!

We will be accepting entries through February 28th and the winner will be announced on March 5th.

Good luck!

The fine print:
1. You must live in northern MA or southern NH.
2. Makeover will be a maximum of 3 hours. This will be plenty of time since we'll be using all of your existing materials.
3. Makeover must take place by August 31, 2011.
4. You must agree to allow before and after pictures to be used in FHD marketing materials (i.e. website, Facebook page, or other varied advertising media).
